Here are some of the most frequently-asked questions regarding uniforms and supply.

If you have a question that needs answering, let us know at the bottom of this page.

When I've earned a rank or qualification badge, how do I get it?

Since rank progression and qualifications are tracked by the Training department, only the Training Officer (TrgO) issues these badges. You can contact the TrgO at Training@800Squadron.com .

For summer camp course badges, contact the TrgO if you did not receive yours. These are issued by the CTC, and may take additional time to order if they were not issued during the summer.

Do I have to wash my uniform? How?

How do I take care of my boots?

The standard for all footwear is that it be cleaned, blackened with polish, and buffed to a dull shine which is free of streaks and grey areas.

Between wearing, take a moment to clean off any dust or dirt from the outside of the boot, by rinsing gently with cold water, or wiping it down with a soft damp cloth. Blacken the entire leather surface with shoe polish, and let it set. Use a soft brush to buff the polish to a dull shine. You may further buff the polish with a soft cloth.

(Optional): For parade boots only, you may choose to polish the boot to a high gloss finish. After blackening and buffing, use a small amount of polish on a clean, soft cloth, and swirl the polish around the surface of the boot gently, in small circular motions, using warm water to lubricate. After several passes, the polish should start to become clear and shiny. It is best to polish the toecaps first, then the heel, followed by the outer side flap, and the inner side flap.

Who owns the uniform?

All issued uniform parts are on temporary loan to the cadet, but are the property of the Department of National Defence, and must be returned upon termination of membership. Registration does not constitute a purchase of any uniform parts or other equipment.

How do I return my uniform when I leave the program?

See the 'Returns' page for more details.

Returning the uniform is the final step in closing out your membership - make sure you have contacted the Administration Officer to conduct any close-out items before turning in your uniform.

Set a return appointment by emailing the Supply Officer.

What if I lose a uniform part, or a piece of equipment, or my whole uniform?

If you have lost your entire uniform, make sure you have submitted your measurements and contact the Supply Officer ASAP.

If you have lost a uniform item(s), use the 'Replacements' form to request a new one. Provide details in the form to explain the situation.

If you have lost a piece of equipment which was loaned to you by the squadron or a team - such as a textbook, flight computer, tool, or musical instrument, contact the officer in charge of the team which loaned you the equipment. You may be required to reimburse the squadron for its replacement.

What if I outgrow / wear out / damage one or more uniform parts?

Use the 'Replacements' form to request a replacement for each item. You will still need to clean and return the worn-out item when the replacement item comes in.

Can I wear my uniform to school, or as a costume for Halloween?

NO. Wearing the uniform is only authorized for cadet activities.

More specifically, all badges, emblems, and uniform parts are the intellectual property of the crown according to the Trademarks Act, and cannot be worn without permission from the Canadian Forces. In our case, only the CO can authorize the wearing of cadet uniforms at specific events, such as regular training or public engagements.
